Peeling is a coating-history clue
When a bathtub coating lifts, bubbles or flakes, the visible problem may be the bond between layers rather than the original fixture itself. That history matters because a new finish depends on sound preparation below it.
What to photograph
- One wide photo showing the entire bathtub
- Close-ups of every peeling edge, bubble or loose section
- The drain, overflow, fixtures and surrounding caulking
- Any rust, cracks, soft areas, movement or signs of leakage
Why another coating cannot simply cover the failure
A loose layer remains a weak layer. Applying a new finish over material that is already detaching does not address the reason it failed. The amount and location of failed coating can change the preparation, time and price required.
Questions that affect the recommendation
Can it be reglazed again?
Sometimes, yes. The answer depends on the extent of the failed coating, the condition of the underlying fixture and whether the causes of failure can be addressed. A photo review can start the discussion, but some tubs need closer assessment before a firm recommendation.
